Julie Alles is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Nutrition, including an internship and graduate work from Indiana University/Purdue University Medical School in Indianapolis. She is licensed by the Kentucky State Board of Medical Examiners and registered with the Commission on Dietetics Registration, the credentialing division of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She maintains her license through continuing education and advanced training. She is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics in Functional and Integrative Medicine.
Before working solely in private practice Julie worked as a clinical dietitian at several major hospitals throughout the United States. In addition, she was a regional coordinator for a homecare company specializing in nutrition support for patients on dialysis and certified in nutrition support for critical care patients.
She has over 25 years of experience in counseling and application of medical nutrition therapy. These areas of nutrition counseling include cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, enteral and parenteral nutrition and critical care.
Julie coauthored books on “Nutrition Support in the Cancer Patient” and “The Complete Idiot’s Guide To Glycemic Index Snacks”. Her writings also included articles online for professional continuing education credit, as well as, peer reviewer for other http://onhealthy.net healthcare professional articles. In addition, she developed many patient education materials and programs for various hospitals throughout the country.
Since she opened her private practice she specializes in teaching clients how to use Food as Medicine. She treats the whole person and looks for the root cause – not just management of symptoms. Her first approach to helping a client is “to do no harm”. Diet and nutrition are not always the cause of a medical condition, but they ALWAYS affect the severity of any medical condition.
In addition, she is a Certified LEAP Therapist. This involves testing for food and chemical hypersensitivities and intolerances. She is affiliated with a company who has a patented mediator release test. This blood test is very specific for symtoms that may be related to migraine headaches, arthritis, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome, gastrointestinal related diseases and inflammatory associated health conditions. Once trigger foods are accurately identified, it can literally change the quality of life for people.
As a Registered & Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist, Julie has ordering privileges with several labs and is able to help you make decisions about your individual specific treatment plan, based on your test results.
Julie’s transition from the disease paradigm to nutrition in functional and integrative medicine has been very rewarding. She strives to provide the best possible care for her clients.
